[REJECTED] Custom Donor Tags

First, I know this has been suggested and rejected many times. But with the recent change to how suggestions are accepted and the recent interest in it, I've brought it up again.

I propose we add the ability for donors to have a custom tag for 30 days per $30 donation, having to donate a minimum of $30.

1. Upon posting the transaction ID, the donator has the choice of having a custom tag for 30 days per $30 donation. So donating $60 may get the custom tag for 60 days. The donator also has the choice of having a combination. For example, donating $45 may be split into $30 for a custom tag (30 days) and $15 for the standard tag (30 days). Donating $15 can get you only the standard [Donor] tag.

2. The ability to have the standard [Donor] tag for 30 days per $15 donation remains unchanged.

3. The custom tag is the same color and format as the standard [Donor] tag.

4. The custom tag is chosen by the donator.

5. The custom tag is no less than 2 and no more than 7 legal characters, legal characters being characters approved by staff.

6. The custom tag can not be Staff, HelpBot, Server, or any word deemed inappropriate by the swear filter and must be approved by staff.

7. The tag can be changed every 15 days by PM'ing an administrator the requesting change.

8. Asking "What is the blue tag?" and similar questions in public chat returns the HelpBot response, "The blue/turquoise tag is for donators. http://www.minerealm.com/c/4/714". Seeing as how changes to HelpBot responses tend to be neglected, this can be implemented after numbers 1-7 are implemented.

I believe this should not make the server appear unprofessional as not many people donate. There should be few custom tags throughout the public chat.

This is my only concern. I think it would make chat look 'unprofessional' (rather, messy).

Your method is a bit complicated, but that can be easily fixed. Well thought out idea though.

This has been suggested multiple times, as eah said. However I think he packages it nicely. Obviously well thought out, I don't see in any way how this could hurt the server. If anything it would provide increased revenue. Being able to make your own tag would definitely, in my opinion, increase the amount of people who donate. Since the tag would have to been approved by staff, it obviously would not be anything vulgar in nature or something that could confuse new people, being the helpbot implementation. Great, well thought idea, I, for one, vote yes.

Personally, I hated it when I was going on servers and people had tags like [Lord] or [Awesome] etc. It made me feel like they had a huge advantage, like maybe instabreak or something, and minerealm is the only server that didn't have that. I just feel like it would be a turn off for new players joining the server.

I think that instead of custom donor tags, veterans should get a "veteran" tag, letting people choose their own tags would make chat very messy, where as adding just a veteran tag would give veterans a bit of recognition, like donors get recognition for their tag and will not clog up chat with random tags.

As I said in the other thread the more tags the more it clutters chat. Plus it is a general sore or the eyes. The whole reason we have [Staff] now instead of
MODERATED
or [Admin] was to cut down on tags.

[Ex-Staff]Ryu_Aurora: There are a lot of colors in the chat, and more of them would make it more annoying than it already is.
eah2119: {Well thought out suggestion that I personally like}
[Ex-Staff]Ryu_Aurora: You know, that's not half bad... and the fact that paying double the usual donation rate would keep the chat from being overwhelmed TOO badly.
[Donor]AverageDonor: You know, it'd be nice to have a customised tag. It could be a different color too, and it'd be a slight incentive to donate, and doesn't break the game.
[Ex-Staff]Ryu_Aurora: Eh.. I can see a custom tag, but it'd need to be the usual color. Otherwise, the chat becomes an eye-destroying rainbow.
[Buddy]AverageBuddy: This idea is always brought up. It's idiotic and is always shot down.
[Buddy]Ryu_Aurora: Shut up. You're just here to better illustrate the contrasting colors.
[Guild]AverageGuildy: I can see this idea working, as long as people aren't whiny tools about it. With the increased price, it limits the chaos, and with it being the same color, it keeps things from looking like everyone has an advantage. Really, it's just people paying more for a tiny perk.
[Guild]Ryu_Aurora: I hate you less than AverageBuddy. That is a valid point.
[Server] Server is restarting. Get the hell off the server for a few, would ya'? Go outside or something, Idk. <3
*Nabbycake: Why do some people have a [Donor] tag in front of their name?
[Ex-Staff]Ryu_Aurora: It shows that they donated to the server because they like it.
*Nabbycake: Do they have special powers?
[Ex-Staff]Ryu_Aurora: Nope. It's purely decorative.

I can see this working. The increased price should prevent a giant mess of tags, and with the color being the same as regular [Donor] tags, it would be easy to remember that it's the same thing, just slightly different. Also, keep in mind that new players aren't looking at the things only Staff see, and they don't have to look at the [Buddy] chat or the [Guild] chat at all, until they join in with it, by which time most of the other things one needs to know on the server have already more or less sunk in.

And the tiny perk that it grants those who want to donate more than the $15 minimum is a nice touch for those that care enough about the server to give their money up for practically nothing.
