How many times have you needed to get in touch in someone but they are offline?
Your options: PM them on the forums and hope they have email alerts on or keep checking /profile throughout the day. A mail system would solve this problem.

Commands:
Code: Select all
/mail send <player> [message]
Message sent!

When a player logs in, they would be prompted with:
New mail! Type /mail to read

Code: Select all
/mail <page>

/mail view 1

Great idea; however, I will list my only concern with one word.

Spam. No, no! Not the kind you eat!

Yeah spam kind of sucks with this kind of mail system. On a other sever I play on I do /ignore (player). And it solves that problem

This is a fantastic idea. And spamming/harrassing someone would result in a ban, so most people wouldn't bother to do this in the first place.

Back in the good ol' days during our dictatorship, I believe Intelli would have said something like

"Rejected. That's what PMs are for."

Really, the only reason anyone would use this is if they had no forum account, or the other person didn't. As there's no reason to not have a forum account, I would consider this a pointless spam opportunity.

EDIT: Roach, even though players could be banned for spamming, people would still be spammed. Would you want to be spammed?

You can message people on the forums - problem solved.

While a nice idea...but... I think it would create too much spam for "the popular people" (not myself). I think it would require way to much coding on the part of Intelli. And if you have something that important to say to someone it can be done on the forums through a PM.

Databasing hundreds if unsent messages would use lots of unnecessary resources. Isn't it simply more convenient to us Skype instead?

There is indeed many offline communication methods like stated before: Skype, Forum PM, ect.

We can use those, but not everyone checks the forum often, and not everyone have a Skype account.
Imagine if it was "in-game": Everyone playing MineRealm would be available.

There is a risk that it is too "spammy". If the messages are spam/without content --> Bannable. Otherwise it could be a useful information tool.

Let us hope that the coding is not to complex and that the spam issue can be countered, if this suggestion is implemented.

Sounds pretty good to me, maybe add a /mail clear command to easily remove spam, and perhaps add a small fee, so that it's not too easy...

+1 anyway
