This is a repost of an earlier suggestion, posted here, which was rejected by Intelli for not having a poll. There were other concerns raised (especially about whether it would be feasible to implement), but I thought it would be worth a shot in a properly formatted suggestion.

The proposal is that on the world map, some mechanism should be added to allow users to distinguish between public and private realms. This could be accomplished by adding a feature, which could be toggled on or off, to add realm boundaries to the map, with differently colored boundaries being used to distinguish between public and private realms.

An alternative method of implementation was presented in the old thread. This would accomplish the same purpose by a different mechanism--the user scrolls over the map, with a text box appearing to state whether the realm is private or public. (This could be similar to the box that currently appears in the bottom left corner to indicate the coordinates of the point the cursor's pointing at.)

In the event that this proposal is supported by the community but cannot feasibly be implemented as described above, due to restrictions on customizing the Tectonis map program being used, the idea could alternatively be implemented by bringing back the old feature of a simplified realm overview (small squares to represent realms, showing coordinates but not pictures of the realms).

Regardless of the mechanism selected for implementation, this suggestion does not call for providing information about the owners of realms. (This is in contrast to the old system described in the previous paragraph which, IIRC, listed the realm's owner in addition to its coordinates and private status.)

I vote no do to the fact that, if/when a wealthy member of the community gets greedy and runs around buying public realms to prevent other players from coming into our fine community. I know that most people wouldn't do that but if someone comes along and does it, well, it would be rather uncalled for...

I say yes cause this was something I suggested like early this year somewhere. But were you need to be zoomed in 85% or more and only showing a 3x3 grid over the map showing which realms are public, and which are private. But prevent the showing of who owns them when veiwing them from the map. My reasons behind it was for building on a realm without my build being acorss 2 or more realms. Though this could prevent realm hogs from finding banned player realms and then camping them till they go public too if done as such.

It'd only really benefit people who snipe spawn realms.

For me, the entire point is exploration. If you knew where public realms were, you wouldn't have to explore the map to find a suitable location. You could just look at the map them walk straight there. I voted no.

Looting is bannable so I doubt anyone will be doing that.

If there was anything I 100% agreed with today, what Intelli said is precisely that.
